This list came out of two births. One that I was overly prepared for and the other from only having three of the five items listed here prepped when my planned c-section baby came early. I didn't even know where my nursing bras and pads were. Fail! It did make me realize what are truly must haves though.
1) Notification Plan
Bring a phone list to the hospital. I’ve had so many friends upset with how people found out that their little one arrived. Make sure your family and close friends know your wishes ahead of time. A lot of things get posted on social media out of turn. It’s your kid; you should get to be the one to share the news, right? I had my mom, sister, and husband make calls/send texts to our family and close friends before anything went public. If you make the list ahead of time there’s a much better chance you won’t miss people.
2) Adult diapers
Gross, I know. Just do it. They are so much more comfortable than what the hospital puts you in.
3) Nursing Gown
This is great even if you're not nursing because it totally covers you up in the back. So much better and more comfortable than what they provide in the hospital.
Nursing Bras and Pads
If you are nursing don't forget these!
This is especially needed if you are staying more than three days in the hospital or if it's your second child because your milk will come in sooner.
4) Baby's Going Home Outfit
You only need one outfit to bring baby home. The hospital has everything else.
Side Note: Take all the hospital diapers, wipes, etc. from your hospital room cart when you leave. You pay for it, take it!
Unless you're really motivated there's no need to put them in cute outfits each day as they are swaddled 100% of the time. I forgot to pack an outfit and assumed my husband could handle grabbing one on the day we went home. He didn't know to bring pants with the onesie. It was October in New England. Insert eye roll.
5) Clothes For You
You only need comfy clothes to go home in, so break out your coziest sweats. You’ll still be about 6 months pregnant size, don’t worry you will go back to normal!
Did you forget to pack anything you really needed? Let us know in the comments! Thanks for reading!
